TERENGGANU — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has uncovered seven cases of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) misappropriation in Terengganu since launching Ops Gasak on May 1, with total seizures valued at RM68,065.07. The enforcement initiative, aimed at curbing illegal activities involving subsidised LPG, has intensified inspections across the state, revealing systemic misuse of the essential fuel.
Terengganu’s Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Director, Mohd Mufsi Lat, stated that authorities inspected 164 premises statewide by May 17, identifying the highest concentration of violations in Dungun (four cases), while single cases were recorded in Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, and Besut. The largest haul occurred in Hulu Terengganu’s Ajil district on May 14, where officials seized two lorries and 477 subsidised LPG cylinders worth RM65,676.20. A 40-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the cylinders, was detained for questioning, marking the first arrest linked to the operation.
“Most cases involve violations of Regulation 3(1) and Regulation 13(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, which prohibit the abuse and unauthorised use of subsidised LPG,” Mufsi Lat explained during a press briefing at the Bukit Bidong Darat police shooting range on Sunday. He emphasised that the ministry remains committed to enforcing strict penalties to deter further exploitation of subsidised resources, ensuring fair access to LPG for legitimate consumers. The operations will continue across the state to dismantle illegal supply chains and safeguard public interests.
