MADISON — Emergency crews have successfully resolved a gas leak that led to a temporary shelter-in-place order for residents on Overbrook Road on Sunday, officials said.
Sarah Wall Fliotsos, a spokesperson for Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), confirmed that crews responded quickly after Eversource electric wires came into contact with SCG’s natural gas distribution infrastructure around 10:45 a.m. that morning. “The area has been made safe, and we appreciate the collaboration of the electric company and town officials in ensuring a quick and safe resolution,” Fliotsos said.
The incident occurred when a tree fell and damaged a gas main and power lines between Opening Hill and Colonial roads. The damage caused a gas leak and left some residents without power. Emergency personnel worked to address both the gas leak and the power outage.
Eversource, Connecticut’s largest utility, reported 24 local outages at 8:15 a.m., with the same number still without power by 11 a.m.
