The national average price for a gallon of diesel increased by 4.7 cents, reaching $3.639, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration released on April 8.
This marks the third consecutive price rise, with this increase being larger than the previous two combined. Diesel, which is the primary fuel for trucking, is now 42.2 cents cheaper than it was at this time last year. Since March 17, the price has risen by 9 cents per gallon.
The price of diesel went up across all five PADD districts, with increases ranging from 6 cents in the Midwest to 1.8 cents on the East Coast. The West Coast, excluding California, saw the largest increase at 6.5 cents.
Meanwhile, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline rose by 8.1 cents, reaching $3.243. This is 34.8 cents lower than the price at this time last year.
